Dons pick off Royals in Channel League Baseball

It was hard to tell what Gabe Grandcolas was better at, pitching to the San Marcos batters or picking them off if they reached base. The Santa Barbara High School lefty threw a complete-game six hit shutout as the Dons whitewashed the Royals 6-0 at Eddie Mathews field.

In a bizarre third inning, the Royals had three basehits but Grandcolas picked off each runner at first and for good measure picked off a Royal to end the game in the seventh inning.

On offense the Dons were led by Skyler Sabado’s 3-for-3 performance with an RBI and a run scored as Santa Barbara improves to 2-1 in the Channel League and 9-4 for the season.
