Long ball helps lift UC Santa Barbara over No. 20 Cal Poly

UC Santa Barbara’s bats did the talking.

The Gauchos hit three home runs in a 7-3 win over No. 20 Cal Poly on Saturday afternoon.

Steven Fisher, Brandon Trinkwon and Marc Venning each collected their first “touch-them-all” of the year to even the non-conference series between the rival schools at 1-1.

Cal Poly starter Matt Imhof went five innings, throwing 118 pitches and allowing eight hits, three walks, and two runs. He left the game in line for the loss but escaped with a no-decision. Danny Zandona picked up his first loss of the season after allowing the go-ahead two run homer to Trinkwon.

UCSB is now 2-2 against ranked opponents.

The rubber match in this series is set for 1 p.m. tomorrow afternoon at Baggett Stadium in San Luis Obispo.
