KEYT Newsroom Internship Opportunities

Are you interested in television and want to get an early start on your career? KEYT is the perfect place to learn what actually goes in to putting a newscast on the air, while getting school credit at the same time.

Duties include but not limited to the following:
Answer phones, conduct preliminary interviews, perform light clerical duties, assist staff members, look for breaking news, call police agencies and assist in social media correspondence.

What are the requirements?
Students who are currently attending an accredited college and have achieved junior status are eligible. Students majoring in journalism, broadcasting or communications are preferred; other majors will be considered. Participants must have good computer skills, excellent written and verbal communication abilities and knowledge of current events. A 2.0 GPA or above is recommended. Students must be able to meet the minimum time commitment. This is an unpaid internship. Student must get credit.

There are two shift times to choose from each day. You will come in one day a week during the 10-2pm shift or 3-7pm shift.

Also please submit a letter of credit with your application.

What is a letter of credit?
A letter written by an adviser on school letterhead that confirms the student will receive credit for the internship. This documentation must be on file prior to start date.

Must be enrolled and receiving course credit from an accredited college or university.

The KEY News Room offers three terms for the Internship Program. They are:

-Fall/Winter September-December
-Winter/Spring January-May
-Summer June-August

Internship will begin and end according to the semester or quarter start and end dates.

Applications for each term will ONLY be accepted during the following windows:

-Fall/Winter July 1-15
-Winter/Spring November 1-15
-Summer April 1-15

Due to the high volume of applicants, the office cannot respond to application-status inquiries; completed application packets are reviewed and qualified students are contacted directly.
