Never-worn boots donated to Ventura County Rescue Mission

The Ventura County probation department donated more than 225 pairs of Redwoods work boots to the Ventura County Rescue Mission.

Although the boots are as good as new, they have been stored in their original shoes boxes at the Juvenile Justice Center for the past eight years.

The boots used to be given to inmates working at the Ojai Honor Farm, but the working farm closed down a decade ago.

The director of the Rescue Mission said he made a promise not to sell them. John Saltee said they are giving them to homeless and low-income guests.

The shoes being given away are sizes, 6, 7 and 9.

The donation is worth an estimated $4,520.

Saltee said they are always interested in working with other organizations and putting donations to good use.
