Fisherman rescued by Coast Guard

A man fishing off the coast of Santa Rosa Island has quite the story to tell. On Monday, he had chest pains and radioed for help.

Normally, it would take the coast guard 30 or 40 minutes to fly up from Los Angeles International. But this time it was 10 minutes. The Coast Guard crew was preparing for a training exercise off the coast of Oxnard.

Lt. Derek Schramel said, “It probably could have been worse if they had to ride the boat in or would have been farther away. “

The fisherman was taken to Cottage Hospital and is expected to make a full recovery.
