Smuggling boat found at Vandenberg towed to Ventura Harbor
A panga style smuggling discovered abandoned off the coast at Vandenberg Air Force Base has been towed to Ventura Harbor.
Homeland Security officials will check it out before it is towed to an evidence yard at Capistrano Beach in Orange County.
Investigators confirmed they found 75 bricks of marijuana stacked and hidden by branches about 250 feet away.
The pot weighing 1,728 pounds is worth an estimated $2,765,120.
The owner of Vessel Assist towed the boat to Ventura. Capt. Paul Amaral said the 28-foot fiberglass boat was damaged and capsized. His crew found a broken motor and empty gas containers in and around the hull.
Homeland Security officer Dave Wales said it appears two smugglers got away before a third tried to hide the drugs.
All of them are still missing.
