Police use sign to warn about burglary spike
A police signboard placed on Ventura Avenue warned residents this week that there has been an unusual increase in home burglaries. The flashing message also asked people to report unusual activity to 911.
Ventura police say nine out of 20 residential burglaries last week happened along Ventura Avenue.
Residents said they were not surprised. Police said the warning sign reminds residents to lock up and lets criminals know they are on to them. Investigators believe crews of three or four burglars have been ringing doorbells. If no one answers they go around the back and check for unlocked doors or windows. Open garages have been targets.
