Man revived in drowning accident

A man is recovering surprisingly well after a near-death accident at Refugio State Beach.

The Santa Barbara County Fire Department responded to a call just after 3 p.m. on Sunday, with reports of a man drowning.

Witnesses pulled a 58-year-old man out of the water, while two off-duty nurses and a state parks ranger performed CPR with a defibrillator.

The team was able to revive him after the man was reported to be not breathing.

The man was transferred to Cottage Hospital via helicopter and is expected to survive.
