Drone center proposal seeks public comments

Naval Base Ventura County is seeking public comment on its proposal to add a drone base at Point Mugu.

The base completed an environmental assessment last month.

The project would bring four remote-controlled Triton Unmanned Aircraft Systems to the base for marine reconnaissance. The Tritons are 48 feet long, with a 130-foot wingspan. The drones would conduct daily flights.

The base is in competition with about a dozen other bases. Its location next to other weapons testing sites along the coast make it a contender.

The drone center would create 700 jobs by 2020.

EIR reports are available at Ventura County libraries or online at :http://www.navyregionsouthwest.com/go/doc/4275/1424607

The deadline to comment is March 11.
