Thousands attend memorial for Daisy Merrick

Thousands of people packed the Santa Barbara City College Sports Pavilion to honor the late Daisy Merrick on Saturday.

The 8 year-old Carpinteria girl lost her long battle with cancer on February 16th.

Merrick’s grandfather is legendary surfboard maker Al Merrick.

Daisy was five years-old when she was first diagnosed with a Wilms tumor. She beat cancer not once, but twice. But, the tumor returned a third time in April 2012.

In all, Daisy endured six surgeries, 22 rounds of chemotherapy, and two courses of radiation.

Her family and friends say Daisy will be remembered as a strong, kind, brave, and thoughtful little girl.
