Local business has key to success

Santa Barbara Locksmiths has moved from its longtime site on Santa Barbara Street to a new, larger store on Haley Street near Garden.

The company has been open since 1948.

The old site was about 750 square feet. The new location is significantly larger.

“Basically we’ve expanded our showroom as far as safes, (and a) bigger line as far as what’s available for the customer rather than ordering it or having to wait for it to be delivered,” said owner Daryl Slater.

The staff said customers who have come to them for keys only, are seeing many other home and auto security items they are interested in.

“People will come in and start by getting a key made, and then notice that they would like a safe or access control, or more security for their home or business,” said Slater.

Next door, Santa Barbara Fasteners has also opened a new store, with a full line of nuts, bolts, screws, and tools.
