Dons girls basketball whips Atascadero in quarterfinal playoff game

Santa Barbara High School jumped out to an 18-8 lead after one quarter and never looked back as they won at Atascadero 66-47 in a CIF Division 3AA quarterfinal game in girls basketball.

Ivette Gil scored 16 of her game-high 23 points in the first half as the Dons built a 43-20 lead at intermission. Desirea Coleman and Jada Howard each scored 12 points in the game as Santa Barbara improves to 23-7 on the season.

Santa Barbara, the No. 2-seeded team in the division, plays at Calabasas on Saturday night at 7p.m. It will be the Dons first semifinal appearance since 2004.
