Tax preps

The United Way of Santa Barbara is working with other agencies to offer free tax assistance to taxpayers. Organizers say all tax counselors have been trained in tax preparation, and have undergone a series of ethics tests to qualify them for helping the public.

They note changes to this year’s tax code can be challenging for novice filers, but the tax advisers say it’s their job to guide the taxpayers thru the process.

The United Way teaming up with local agencies is all part of the Financial Empowerment Partnership of South Santa Barbara County, whichaims to bring financial stability to those who seek it.

The tax preparation service is available on Saturday morningsthru April 12, 2013.

The service is also available in Goleta on Wednesday evenings. Assistance is available in Spanish. Call the United Wayat 899-2313 for more information.
