San Marcos holds off PV for boys basketball playoff win

With their big lead down to one, San Marcos responded with a 15-8 scoring run over the final five minutes as they held on to beat Palos Verdes 60-51 in a CIF Division 3-AA first-round boys basketball playoff game.

San Marcos led 36-21 in the third quarter but PV cut the deficit to 42-41 with just over five minutes left in the game. But Jake Wheelock drilled a three-pointer, Bryce Ridenour made two free throws and Ian Douglas banked in a mid-range jumper to put the Royals back up 49-43 with just under three minutes to play and the Sea Kings never got within four points again.

Wheelock scored a game-high 15 points while Ridenour added 13. San Marcos plays at El Dorado on Friday.
