Signature moment for local athletes
More than one dozen high school football players in Ventura County signed National Letters of Intent to play in college.
Six players are headed to Pac-12 schools. Oaks Christian wide receiver Francis Owusu will attend Stanford University while his Lions teammate Chris Judge picks UCLA. St. Bonaventure star running back Zachary Green will take his talents to the University of Arizona and he will be joined by Oak Park defensive lineman Luca Bruno. Westlake defensive back Dashon Hunt chooses Oregon State while his Warriors teammate Tony Mekari selects Cal.
Other notable signings from Ventura County include Thousand Oaks linebacker Nathan DeBeikes who is off to BYU, Newbury Park’s Ben Okun is headed to Army and fellow Panther Austin DeMaille is off to MIT.
In Goleta Dos Pueblos High School has three football players sign. Nico Bornand has chosen UNLV, Anthony Spiritosanto is headed to the University of San Diego while Jordan Degraffinreid signs with Colorado School of Mines.
Lompoc star running back Lavon Coleman is going to play Pac-12 ball as he inks his name with the University of Washington.
San Luis Obispo’s Jack Ferguson will play at Cal Poly as will Templeton’s Ross Berry. Michael Cardwell from Mission Prep will attend Missouri Science and Technology and his teammate Andrew DeSesa is headed to Brown.
Santa Barbara City College is sending two more players to four-year universities. Collin Powell signs with Simon Fraser University and Andrew Griffin is going to Southern Nazarene University.
Not all of the signings involved football. Cate High School in Carpinteria has soccer star Joshua Yaro inking his name to play at Georgetown. Santa Barbara High School boys water polo star Evan Robertson will continue his career at Cal.
