UPDATE Arrest Made in Downtown Santa Barbara Fire
SANTA BARBARA – (Updated January 4, 2012)A homeless man has been arrested in connection with a downtown fire Thursday that damaged a vacant business.The Santa Barbara Police department says, information about a man that was seen near the building prior to the fire, led officers to Andrew Easton, a downtown transient. He reportedly was seen putting out a small fire at that location early on Thursday. Investigators believe the wood trim on the building was burning for hours and eventually spread into the building leading to a major structure fire.Easton was booked into Santa Barbara County jail with his bail set at $20,000.(previous information)Santa Barbara City Fire crews were on scene of a two alarm blaze at a downtown business. Fire was knocked down just before 1 p.m.Fire crews responded to reports of a blaze on the 500 block of Chapala Street around 12:15 Thursday afternoon. Crews battled flames in what appears to be a vacant commercial building; scanner traffic put the fire at the site of the old Montecito Motors business.A large plume of black smoke can be seen from TV Hill.
