Rosary Service for Simon Chavez

SANTA BARBARA – A rosary service will be held tonight for Simon Chavez at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church.22-year-old Chavez was killed by a hit and run driver while walking along Highway 101 in Santa Barbara on January 15th. He was found on the southbound lanes of the freeway near the Castillo Street off-ramp. Officers believe the car involved is a 2010 to 2013 white Hyundai Tucson. The vehicle likely has left front and left side damage. The driver’s side mirror and part of the bumper were left at the scene. Chavez graduated from Santa Barbara High School in 2008 and coached both the freshmen and junior varsity baseball teams at his alma mater. He took this past fall off to go back to school. He was working towards earning a degree to become a full time teacher and coach.Tonight’s rosary begins at 7:30 p.m. A funeral mass will be held tomorrow at 10 a.m. The public is invited to attend.
