Food Stamp Computer Glitch
On Sunday computer programmers working to update software accidentally cancelled food stamp debit cards.The problem left local residents and about 40 thousand other Californians without a way to buy groceries.It also caused the phones to ring at Social Services Agencies.Dee Padilla says it was embarrassing when she was trying to buy groceries to feed her family and her card didn’t work.Tuesday morning state officials said the programmers had fixed the problem.We checked back with Padilla, and she says her card now works.But Padilla suggested that state and local agencies find a way to notify recipients online or with a call next time so they are not inundated with calls.If anyone is still having problems they can pick up replacements cards at Social Service Centers.Human Services AgencyShare your comments about this story with us on the KEY News Facebook page.
