DRI’s “Holy Rollers” Kick Off the New Year – Shredding
SANTA BARBARA – The Friday “Holy Rollers” at Direct Relief International met up to shred sheets and stock shelves for trauma clinics, worlds away. More than a dozen pairs of hands cut and crafted from 450-thread count, Egyptian cotton sheets. The luxury outcasts are donated by the Biltmore Hotel and Bacara Resort, at least once a month, and are hand-rolled by the volunteers into wraps for the wounded. The group started more than 20 years ago and estimates they’ve put together more than 400,000 bandage rolls for more than 100 Third World countries.
