Ventura County Supervisors voted unanimously to create new positions for Child Welfare Social Workers.Barry Zimmerman, the Director of the Human Services Agency, says the funding will help the agency hire 20 more social workers over the next few years.Zimmerman says there has been a spike in child abuse and neglect cases.He hopes to hire seven social workers next month.The funding approval comes just one day before the scheduled sentencing of Blair Stockdill for the murder of her daughter .Social workers had visited the mentally ill Ventura mother shortly before she drowned her eight year old in the bathtub of their Ventura apartment.It happened in September of 2010.Human Services AgencyShare your comments about this story with us on the KEY News Facebook page.
