UPDATE: Man arrested after deadly hit and run

NewsChannel 3 has new information about the hit and run crash that killed a Santa Barbara man.

The California Highway Patrol now says they conducted surveillance on several homes throughout Southern California to find the suspected driver, Lau Van Huynh from Murrieta, Calif.

On January 15th, 22-year-old Simon Chavez was killed after he was struck by a vehicle in the southbound lanes of Highway 101 near the Carrillo off-ramp.

The vehicle involved fled the scene after the crash. Prior to Huynh’s arrest, the C.H.P was looking for a newer model Hyundai Tucson.

Now, the C.H.P. is inspecting the 2011 white Hyundai Tucson they say belongs to Huynh.

Huynh is being held in the Santa Barbara County jail on $1,000,000 bond. It’s still unknown why the victim was on the highway or if drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash.
