Vista Bus – Out of State Plates

One of our KEY News viewers contacted our tipline with the question, ” Why do Vista Buses have Wyoming license plates?”

So we looked into and found out its one of the most common questions asked or emailed to the Ventura County Transportation Commission.

Bus Transit Director Victor Kahmi says the agency saves money by leasing an out of state bus fleet.

But a portion of the license fee goes to California and all of the Vista buses have to comply with California laws and safety standards.

You may also see the same buses that take commuters from Ventura to Santa Barbara being used for charters to destinations that include Las Vegas and Solvang.

The Ventura County Transportation Commission is considering a plan to put signs the buses to explain the out of state plates.

The commission already has an explanation email to reply to concerned citizens.
