Youth Immigration Reform
People are talking about President Obama’s decision to allow young law abiding illegal immigrants to apply for work permits. The president said today that his administration is taking action to mend the nation’s immigration policy, “to make it more fair, more efficient, and more just — specifically for certain young people sometimes called “Dreamers.”Obama said individuals who do not present a risk to national security or public safety will be able to request temporary relief from deportation proceedings and apply for work authorization. But at the same time He said, ” this is not this is not amnesty, this is not immunity. This is not a path to citizenship. It’s not a permanent fix. This is a temporary stopgap measure that lets us focus our resources wisely while giving a degree of relief and hope to talented, driven, patriotic young people. Obama says it will give certainty to farmers and ranchers.Reaction to the new appears partisan. And some young latino’s say this will help the children of farm workers seeking higher education and successful careers. But President Obama made a point of saying that just six year ago John McCain, Ted Kennedy and President Bush favored this kind of reform.
