Vertigan Taken In 10th Round By Oakland

UCSB junior Brett Vertigan, who led the Big West Conference with a .381 batting average, was taken in the tenth round in day two of the Major League Baseball Draft. Vertigan also was tops in the conference in hits, triples and stolen bases. He was second in the league in slugging percentage, on-base percentage and runs scored. Nipomo High School senior pitcher Ryan McNeil was drafted in the third round by the Chicago Cubs. The draft continues tomorrow.
