UCSB Student Dies In Fireworks Explosion

RIVERSIDE COUNTY – An explosion involving a fireworks display killed a 20-year-old UCSB student.It happened Friday at a minor league baseball stadium that’s home to the Single A affiliate for the San Diego Padres baseball team.William ‘Willy’ Calabrese was preparing a fireworks display for the Lake Elsinore Storm baseball game when it blew up.Calabrese sustained burns to more than 90 percent of his body and died Sunday morning.Riverside County fire officials say two other people suffered burns in the explosion.Calabrese would have entered his junior year at UCSB this Fall.The exact cause of the explosion is under investigation.
