Two Killed In Oxnard Officer Involved Shooting

An officer-involved shooting after a brief pursuit in Oxnard left two men dead, and a third injured.Police officers attempted to make a traffic stop late Saturday night. Three men were inside the vehicle. The driver eventually stopped his car near Second Street and Grant Avenue. Police say the men refused to follow the officer’s instructions. They say one man was talking on a cell phone while another was simulating a weapon with his hands. After several minutes, the driver drove off. Police gave chase, and after a short pursuit, the car stopped in the 100 block of North Garfield Avenue. According to preliminary reports, once the vehicle came to a complete stop, two people inside the car took off. The officers chased the men and were fired upon. Multiple officers returned fire. One man was shot and died at the scene. Another man was wounded. A second man was killed in the gunfire, and police are trying to figure out his relationship to the men inside the vehicle. The third man in the vehicle surrendered to police when the two others fled. No officers were injured. The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office is conducting the investigation, along with assistance from the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office and the Oxnard Police Department. The Oxnard Police Department will also conduct an administrative investigation.
