Record Number Of Gaucho Swimmers Set For Olympic Trials

A record seventeen past and present UCSB Swimmers will travel to Omaha, Nebraska on Saturday to try and make their U.S. Olympic dreams a reality. 2009 UCSB graduate Katy Freeman will be seated fifth in the 200 meter breaststroke. Only the top two swimmers in that event will move on to London for the 2012 Olympics. On the men’s side recent grad Chris Peterson will swim the 100 meter freestyle with the top-six finishers moving on to London. Peterson holds the UCSB record in the 100 free but is only seated 42nd at next week’s trials. 1999 UCSB graduate Jason Lezak will try and make his fourth Olympics. He has four gold medals and will compete in the 50 and 100 meter freestyle races.
