Part of Highway 101 Could Collapse

SANTA BARBARA – CalTrans says a culvert hidden below the northbound 101 just north of The Gaviota Tunnel is failing. The highway above it could collapse if repairs aren’t made soon.Workers will repair the culvert starting Tuesday night. Traffic will be down to one lane in each direction 24 hours a day while repairs are made. The project will take two to three weeks to complete. The lane closures are from south of Gaviota State Park at Mariposa/Reina to the Highway 101/Highway 1 interchange.
