Non-Profit Hopes To Develop New Sea Life

A Santa Barbara non-profit is launching a new project to help recruit and develop new sea life.Chris Goldblatt founded the “Fish Reef Project” two years ago. Goldblatt and several others plan to place man-made reef balls into the ocean. The structures will provide a hard surface for plankton to settle on and help restore fish populations. On Monday the group will be placing a small number of reef balls off the coast of Hendry’s beach as a test. Goldblatt hopes to eventually expand the project along the entire California coast. According to the Fish Reef Project, there are more than 500-thousand similar reef balls in the ocean world wide. For more information about the project, log on to www.fishreef.org.
