Medina Trial Delayed

The same attorney who represented Brandon McInerney in the junior high school shooting of a gay classmate is now representing another teen being tried as an adult for murder.Scott Wippert is defending Alex Medina.Medina is accused of fatally stabbing 16-year-old Seth Scarminach outside a party in Meiners Oaks near Ojai. Medina was 14 at the time of the stabbing back in April of 2009.Wippert says he won’t be ready for trial until June.Judge James Cloninger wants the trial to start sooner.Prosecutors say Wippert failed to have the judge removed from the trial on Friday. The McInerney case was interrupted by similar delays.After years in court, McInerney accepted a plea agreement and is serving a 21 year sentence.Unlike McInerney, Alex Medina has been described as a gang member.Attorneys are due back in court to set a trial date on January 4th.Share your comments about this story with us on the KEY News Facebook page.
