Marsh Opens Up With A Sizzling 64 At State Amateur Golf Championship

Former La Cumbre Country Club member Kevin Marsh used his course knowledge to fire a 7-under par 64 to grab a share of the first-round lead at the 101st California Amateur Golf Championship in Santa Barbara. Marsh is tied with last year’s champion Bhavik Patel and Ronnald Monaco. The top 32 players in the 156 man field will advance to Wednesday’s first-round of Match play. The tournament wraps up on Saturday. Former Laguna Blanca High School star Niall Platt is 5-under par, Jack Perry, a Santa Barbara High School alum, is 3-under par and 1995 runner-up John Pate, who played at both Bishop Diego and San Marcos High School, is 1-over par.
