Maldonado is a “Young Gun”

Santa Barbara – Abel Maldonado has gone from Black Sheep to the Golden Child. The National Congressional Committee has named him a “Young Gun”, meaning Maldonado will now get a lot of money and support from a party that did not want anything to do with him before the primary election.”Being a Young Gun puts a national focus on the Central Coast, it puts a national focus on the 24th Congressional District,” said Maldonado.Founded during the 2008 election cycle, the Young Guns program is a member-driven effort that is the primary method for recruiting strong candidates for both open-seat and challenge races. To be named a Young Gun, Maldonado had to prove his ability to run a solid campaign, be an impressive fundraiser and ultimately make himself a strong contender. He is going up against Incumbent Democrat Lois Capps in the new 24th Congressional District. But the immediate challenge is not Congresswoman Capps. The big question right now is whether or not he can bring his own party back together.”Primaries can be very difficult at times, they can be very divisive but at the end of the day we need to unite, we need to move forward and if there is a time we can win, right now is the time we can win,” said Maldonado.KEY News Reporter Scott Hurst has the story.
