Lois Capps and Abel Maldonado Take 24th Congressional District
Santa Barbra- Incumbent and Democrat, Lois Capps and Republican Abel Maldonado were the top two vote-getters in the race for the 24th Congressional District. Capps garnered the majority of the vote– and the Former Lt. Governor was second in the lead. Both candidates will be heading to the general election in November. Maldonado’s campaign celebrated at Fess Parker Double Tree Resort. Congresswoman Capps was in Washington D.C Tuesday night, to cast votes on legislation on the House of Representatives floor. But she did issue this statement: “I’m very grateful and humbled to again receive such strong support from Central Coast voters. I look forward to meeting residents across the district in the months ahead, and discussing important issues, including how we can improve our economy, and create more jobs, protect social security, and medicare, and make college more affordable.”Other candidates in the race included Republican Chris Mitchum and Independent Matt Boutte. The new 24th district, now includes all of Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo counties, as well as a small portion of Ventura County.KEY News Reporter Shirin Rajaee reports.
