Honored Winemaker Planning to Expand in the Santa Maria Valley

A local winemaker has made it to the Forbes magazine Food and Wine Top 30 under 30 list and is planning to open a new winery in the Santa Maria Valley. 26-year-old Gavin Chanin says his love of wine started about nine years ago.Chanin is teaming up with Classic Wines LLC Owner Bill Price from Sonoma and plans to release single vineyard Pinot Noir wines from the Bien Nacido area east of Santa Maria.”All the things I look at as ways to compete in the marketplace start with the very basic roots of great vineyards, great grapes, great wine making and putting something great in bottles,” says Chanin.Chanin says he previously worked at Au Bon Climat and Qupe wineries. There he learned his craft from some of the most honored winemakers on the Central Coast. Chanin plans to open his new winery this summer.
