Fillmore Sexting Case

Deputies arrested a 23-year-old Fillmore man on suspicion of sending sexually explicit photos to a minor’s phone with the intent to seduce.An officer on patrol in Carpinteria Tuesday morning noticed the man coming out of Marsh Park with the underage girl and stopped to question them.That’s when they found the images on both of their phones.The teen who admitted to skipping school said she met Joel Arana on the internet and was led to believe he was younger.The Sheriff’s Department didn’t release the teens age or the school she attends.But educators say this is a teaching moment for students and parents.They recommend restricting internet use and keeping computers in open areas such as family rooms.They also recommend giving children phones that can only be used for the basics like phoning home.People walking by the park today said it could have turned out worse and that the young man should have known better.Arana is being held in Santa Barbara County Jail.Bail is set at 20 thousand dollars.Arana is likely to make his first court appearance Thursday.
