Fatal Accident on Calle Real and State Street

Santa Barbara- One man is dead after being struck by a car while crossing the street Monday night. Santa Barbara Police, City Fire and CHP responded to the fatal accident on the intersection of Calle Real and State Street around 10:30pm. The victim is a middle aged man. Authorities say, according to statements from the victim’s friends, he was a transient. The victim had just left a liquor store, and officials do confirm that he had been drinking. The driver of the car was a young man on his way home to Santa Ynez after visiting friends in Los Angeles. Alcohol does not appear to be a factor with the driver. Police blocked off the heavily traveled intersection. They closed the State Street and 154 off ramp on HWY 101 Northbound, and several other neighboring streets for several hours. The exact cause of the accident is under investigation. KEY News Reporter Shirin Rajaee was on scene and has the full report.
