Legislation to speed up the process of firing teachers for misconduct involving children was killed Wednesday by an Assembly committee after opposition from California’s largest teachers union.Two Democrats voted against SB-1530, four others, including Assemblyman Das Williams, abstained from voting. The move has raised the question about the political power of the California Teachers Association.
