Carpinteria Softball Moves Into Semifinals For First Time Ever

Catalina Maldonado is a one-girl wrecking crew as she pitched and hit Carpinteria into the CIF softball semifinals for the first time in school history. Maldonado’s two-run homer in the third inning put the Warriors up 3-2 and they never trailed again as they beat Yucca Valley 7-3 in a CIF Division 6 quarterfinal contest in Carpinteria.Maldonado went 3-for-4 on the day with four runs batted in and her third inning blast was her second home run of the postseason. She pitched a complete game as well as Carpinteria improves to 21-5-1. Tatiana Verdugo had a big RBI single in the fifth to give Carpinteria a 4-2 lead and three more runs in the sixth, highlighted by a 2-run double by Maldonado, put the game away.
