Candidate Maldonado’s Family Involved in Fatal Collision

SANTA MARIA- Congressional candidate Abel Maldonado’s wife and son are recovering from a horrific car accident that killed a man.The crash happened just after four Monday afternoon at Dominion Road and Foxen Canyon Road in Santa Maria.The CHP reports, 32-year-old Joseph Scott Scheurn failed to stop at a stop sign and drove into on-coming traffic.The Maldonado’s Cadillac collided with Scheurn’s car, ultimately resulting in his death.Maldonado’s wife and son suffered minor injuries. Abel Maldonado was not involved in the crash.It is unknown whether drugs or alcohol played a role in the collision.The investigation is ongoing pending a toxicology report.Maldonado issued the following statements regarding the accident:”Monday afternoon, my wife Laura and son were in a terrible car accident in Santa Maria. Our deepest condolences and sympathies are with the family of the victim. There are no words that can lift the burden of grief and sorrow his family and friends are experiencing right now.””My wife and son were taken to a local hospital in Santa Maria and underwent precautionary tests and were released Monday evening and returned home. Again, the thoughts and prayers of our entire family are with his family and friends.”
