Californian Hotel All But Gone

If you thought the vacant Californian Hotel on lower State Street was empty before, you should see it now.All but three small sides remain.The rest of the landmark hotel, that dates back to the mid 1920’s is gone. It was part of a deal with a developer and the city to make the area safer.The Californian was considered a very dangerous building in the event of a major temblor.As for the site at State and Mason Street, it’s been talked about for major hotel project for years but ownership and funding problems have delayed any improvements.
