Broken Fire Hydrant Floods Nearby Home

SANTA BARBARA- A truck crashed into a fire hydrant this afternoon near Foothill and Tye Road, flooding a house nearby.Santa Barbara City firefighters and CHP officers arrived on scene to find the truck still resting on top of the sheared off hydrant.Water was spraying in all directions.Some witnesses also reported smelling gas in the area.Officers shutdown Alamar Avenue as the water began to flood the nearby home. The homeowner told KEY News that the damage is contained to just their garage. However, they’ve been through this before.They said the same thing happened last October when a car hit the same fire hydrant and flooded their house. This time they knew what to do to keep the damage to a minimum.All roads were reopened by 3:00 p.m.
