Autism Family Night at the Santa Barbara Zoo

SANTA BARBARA – The Santa Barbara Zoo hosts a special event tonight for families with children who have special needs. ‘Autism Family Night’ is another example of What’s Right in Our Community.The after hours event takes place from 5:00 to 8:00 Thursday night and allows kids to explore the grounds and hear zoo keepers explain the science and craft behind their work.Visitors can enjoy rides on the Zoo’s new red train engine. Each guest receives a special Zoo Map marked with exhibits where they can collect stamps. The Zoo’s Ridley-Tree House Restaurant offers a limited menu, including gluten- and dairy-free items, and guests with dietary restrictions are welcome to bring in their own food.Coordinators of the event say studies show that interactions with animals help children with special needs.
