A Spectacular Sight: Ring of Fire Eclipse

Goleta – Tri-County residents may get a chance see a “Ring of Fire”.A viewing party of the annular eclipse of the sun will be held at Camino Real Marketplace on Sunday.The eclipse, known as the “Ring of Fire”, began over Asia and was visible in parts of southern Japan and southern China. In the United States, the eclipse will be visible on a path from northwestern Texas through New Mexico and parts of Utah, Nevada, California and Oregon.Share your comments about this story with us on the KEY News Facebook page.According to NASA, during the annular eclipse, the moon does not block the entirety of the sun, but leaves a bright ring of visible light at the edges. The moon will be at the furthest distance from Earth that it ever achieves, meaning that it will block the smallest possible portion of the sun and leave the largest possible bright ring around the outside.The best possible time to view the eclipse here in the Tri-Counties will be between 5:30pm and 6:30pm.The last annual eclipse appeared in the United States in 1994.
