Satnam Singh Changes Plea
The trial of a Humvee driver accused of killing bicyclist ended today. But not the usual way. Satnam Singh’s attorney David Lehr says his client changed his plead to guilty. Singh pleaded guilty to second degree murder in the death of a 20-year-old Nick Haverland.
The Ventura College student was riding on Telegraph Road in May of last year when he was struck by Singh’s green Humvee. Several other cyclist and people struck in car were injured on the same roadway. Prosecutors say Singh’s blood alcohol level was five times the legal limit. Singh now faces 15 years to life in prison. The 50-year-old, who remains in jail, will be sentenced next month.
