Beach Curfew Proposal

A coastal community is recommending a beach curfew. Members of the Pierpont Community Council passed a motion last month recommending a 10 p.m. to dawn curfew on Shore Drive and Pierpont Beach. Supporters believe it will reduce crime.

The Pierpont Community Council plans to ask residents to vote on the matter at general membership meeting Monday. But Police say the Ventura City Council is the only board that can initiate an ordinance.

Police say Ventura beaches are currently open around the clock. But Marina Park and the State Beach Park close at dusk. Beaches in the Ventura Harbor close at 10 p.m. The community council could take the curfew request to the city later this year.
