Confetti eggs at Old Spanish Days Fiesta: A tradition that will never crack
SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – Vendors are filling up on State Street for Fiesta.
Confetti eggs are a tradition that will never crack at old Spanish Days Fiesta.
"I’ve been doing with my mom for the last 28 years … we’re just here to celebration 99 years of Old Spanish Days," said egg seller Henry Mendez.
Visitors from around the region are coming to Santa Barbara for the annual Fiesta.
"We just really love Santa Barbara we heard this festival was going on so we decided to drive down … it was about a 5 and a half hour drive," said visitor Jake Magneson.
One of the most popular aspects of the festival are the colorfully decorated eggshells filled with confetti.
"Born and raised in Santa Barbara California this is my best friend from high school holly and these are my kids were here to celebrate," said Melissa Koonze.
Dozens of local families are expected to sell the eggs along State Street during Fiesta.
The Mendez family said they hope to sell 1,000 eggs by the end of the week.
"Fiesta means a lot to me my family grew up here … been a tradition to come out here every year. And the eggs honestly I really like all the different kinds you see around," said dancer Reyna Vaca of Fiesta.
The confetti eggs are considered the must have item for a fun-filled fiesta experience.
Street vendors will continue selling the confetti eggs along State Street and other areas of Downtown Santa Barbara throughout the duration of La Fiesta.
