PCPA kicks off much-anticipated summer season in Solvang Festival Theater

SOLVANG, Calif. – PCPA raises the curtain this weekend on its much-anticipated summer season that returns back once again to the Solvang Festival Theater.

Over the next two-and-a-half months, the beloved outdoor venue will host four productions that make up a diverse lineup of shows.

Starting the season is the West Coast premiere of Emma, which has been adapted for the stage by Joseph Hanreddy from the novel of the same name by Jane Austen.

Emma kicked off the summer season on June 22 and is set to run in the Festival Theater through July 2.

Steve Martin and Edie Brickell’s Grammy and Tony-nominated musical, Bright Star is next on the Solvang stage and will run from July 7-23.

The musical comedy American Mariachi, featuring an all-girl mariachi band set in the 1970's will first debut inside the Marian Theatre in Santa Maria from July 13-29 before moving to Solvang from August 4-27.

The final show of the summer season will be The Book of Will, a true story centered around the first collection of works of William Shakespeare.

This will mark the first full summer season for PCPA in the recently renovated Solvang Festival Theater.

Last year, the nearly 50-year-old outdoor venue completed a $5.3 million revitalization project. Among the improvements included were new seating, audio system, light towers, higher back wall and ADA enhancements.

Due to the 10-month long construction project, the summer season was cut to only a month, instead of its usual two-and-a-half month long run.
