Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s deputies raise $100 for boy’s birthday after he received a counterfeit bill from a Buellton store
BUELLTON, Calif. - Santa Barbara County Sheriff's deputies were able to brighten a 17-year-old boy's birthday after he received a counterfeit $100 bill from a store this weekend.
Deputies responded to the Buellton business to investigate the counterfeit bill on Saturday.
During their investigation, they found out that 17-year-old Jayden had been saving his spare change for the past few months so that he could buy himself something nice for his birthday.
Jayden had packed his coins into a coin sorter and brought his voucher to a local business to exchange for cash.
During the transaction, the business ended up including a counterfeit $100 bill in Jayden's cash.
When Jayden went to an ATM to deposit the money, the counterfeit bill was rejected.
Unfortunately, the Sheriff's Office said the Buellton store was unable to provide Jayden with a new $100 bill.
However, deputies working in Santa Ynez heard about Jayden's story and decided to take matters into their own hands.
The deputies banded together and quickly raised $100 so that Jayden could buy what he wanted for his birthday.
In their post on Facebook, the Sheriff's Office wished Jayden a very happy birthday and said that, under his face mask, he was all smiles.
