Local artist commissioned by city to create art work on State Street in Santa Barbara

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - A local artist has been commissioned by the city to create art work on State Street.

Artist Sara Wilcox of Santa Barbara can be seen creating chalk art on the street throughout the month of June.

Her focus is on drawing people of color.

Several of her art pieces include an array of rainbow colors to honor pride month.

Wilcox is also using her art to spread the message of honoring others ahead of Juneteenth.

"We need to honor this more and I see a lot of racism as I'm painting the streets ... and to this day ... and we have a long way to go," said Wilcox.

Wilcox said some of her paintings have been washed away due to recent rain.

But she will continue creating new drawings throughout the month of June.
