Lompoc Valley Medical Center licensed to provide in-patient dialysis
LOMPOC, Calif. – Following an intense certification process, Lompoc Valley Medical Center was approved to treat in-house patients with kidney-related complications through on-site dialysis.
According to a press release, patients cannot come into the medical center specifically for dialysis. However, they can receive dialysis treatment if they are admitted as a patient for other medical reasons.
For example, if a patient comes in for surgery, the medical center can provide dialysis alongside the procedure. Before receiving the certification, the medical center had to send dialysis patients to other farther hospitals.
“When they’re from Lompoc, it’s the wife or the husband or the son or the daughter driving every day from Lompoc to Cottage. It takes a toll. And sometimes, they’re in the hospital for one, two or many weeks.”
Doctor Andrew Ross, committee member of Dialysis Program Committee
CEO and Chief Nursing Officer, Yvette Cope, said the team has “... gone above and beyond the requirements. Our community members no longer need to travel to hospitals north or south when in need of hospitalization simply because we could not provide dialysis treatment."
